Strength of Connections Campaign
Twenty years ago Doug and Lynne Seus started The Vital Ground Foundation with the vision of protecting habitat for grizzly bears and other threatened and sensitive wildlife.
Since our first land purchase in 1991, Vital Ground has worked with supporters and conservation partners to protect and restore more than 604,000 acres of crucial habitat and wildlife linkages in grizzly country. And the grizzly population numbers in the lower 48 states are on the rise from their near extinction level 30 years ago.
But there is much more work to be done if we are to keep the grizzly and other wildlife populations connected, genetically robust, and able to move safely across the landscape in response to climate change, food availability, and seasonal needs.
Because of the rapid pace of subdivision and development in key wildlife areas (even during a recession!), the urgency to complete strategic private land protections is greater now than ever before.
