  • Highly adaptable, black bears are the most widespread and successful bears in North America
  • Colors of their coats range from cinnamon to white (Spirit or Kermode bear) to gray blue (Glacier bear)
  • Less than 25% of their diet is composed of animal matter
  • Home ranges vary from 2.5 to 10 square miles (6.4-26 square kilometers)
  • Short claws make them adept tree climbers
