Cabinet-Purcell Wildlife Linkage Initiative
The Cabinet-Purcell Wildlife Linkage Initiative is an active fundraising initiative under The Right PlaceTM Campaign to protect grizzly bear and wildlife habitat in the trans-border area of northwestern Montana and southern British Columbia.
Large blocks of public lands in the Cabinet-Purcell mountain region are fairly well protected and serve as core habitat areas for grizzlies and other wildlife species. But in the valley and river drainages, privately owned properties containing homes, businesses, ranches and transportation corridors separate these public lands. The increased development and traffic in these areas disrupt wildlife movement across the landscape and threaten the future of the grizzly bear in the region.
In collaboration with conservation and wildlife management partners, Vital Ground has identified the linkage zones where key protections are needed. By securing properties within these areas through fee title acquisitions and conservation easements, Vital Ground will foster wildlife movements between ecosystems and facilitate the recovery of declining grizzly bear populations in the Cabinet-Purcell region.
Two key properties within these identified areas are currently for sale and are in exactly the right places to benefit grizzlies. Vital Ground has placed them under purchase option agreement as Phase I of the Cabinet-Purcell Wildlife Linkage Initiative.
Time is of the essence. By donating to Vital Ground's Cabinet-Purcell Wildlife Linkage Initiative Fund you will make an extraordinary impact on protecting grizzly bear habitat and preventing mortalities caused by future development.
