  • Up to 350 pounds (159 kg)
  • 4 to 6 feet (1.2-1.8 meters) in length
  • Chinese name is "xiangmao" or "giant cat bear" as their pupils are catlike vertical slits. All other bears posses round pupils
  • Possibly the most endangered bear in the world
  • Equipped with a sixth digit that works like an opposable thumb
  • Must consume up to 45 pounds (20 kg) of bamboo shoots a day to survive
  • Exist in only 6 small regions along the eastern rim of the Tibetan Plateau
  • Do not hibernate or roar
  • Home range is very small, sometimes no more than 1.5 to 2.5 square miles (3.9-6.5 square kilometers)
