In 1990, a small group of friends launched the Vital Ground Foundation with one simple idea: protect habitat for wild grizzlies and the other creatures that call grizzly country home.

Over twenty years later, with thanks to thousands of supporters, we can celebrate dozens of projects that have protected and enhanced well over one-half million acres of wildlife habitat in some of the wildest places left on the continent.

By protecting vital ground—healthy, wild lands that still teem with wildlife and connect large natural areas—we ensure a place for grizzlies in our children's future.
