Dan Turner

Vital Ground Trustee since November 2018
Dan Turner

Dan grew up as a proud fifth-generation Californian with roots in the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe. Spending summers at a family homestead dating back to the 1850s on Tahoe’s west shore, he developed a deep love for the outdoors. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, he embarked on a 35-year career in securities trading and portfolio management. He founded Rubicon Securities, Inc., a market-making firm on the Pacific Stock Exchange, and Rubicon Capital Group, LLC, a private investment partnership. He served as vice chairman of the Pacific Stock Exchange. After raising their three children in Santa Monica, Calif., Dan and his wife Christiane moved in 2009 to Ketchum, Idaho, where they currently live alongside the Big Wood River, their three dogs and 60 chickens. From 2012-2016, he served as chairman of the Wood River Community YMCA, and currently chairs the YMCA’s Development Committee, while also serving on its Finance and Governance committees. He’s also a member of the Blaine County School District’s Finance Committee. Upon being elected to The Vital Ground Foundation’s board of trustees, he said: “I am drawn to the urgency of Vital Ground’s mission. We must ensure wildlife corridors not only for grizzly bears but all species, are preserved for posterity. And we must do it now, before wild open spaces are gone forever.”
