At Vital Ground, memorial gifts are made in remembrance of someone who has passed away. You can memorialize a family member or a friend through an honorary gift, gift fund or memorial.

Last month Vital Ground lost a tremendous friend, when David Rice, from the Baltimore area, lost his life in a car accident in Maryland.
David truly believed in grizzly conservation efforts, generously donating to Vital Ground’s efforts and intrepidly exploring grizzly habitat in Alaska and British Columbia. Along their journeys, David and his beloved wife and travel partner, Anna, captured spectacular photographs (below) and even named two of their dogs Kodiak and Grizzly.
David and Anna also studied black bears in Shenandoah National Park, though David’s true life passion remained the restoration of North America’s grizzly bear population for future generations. A selfless humanitarian, David truly left the world a much better place than he found it. Those fortunate enough to know David are reminded of the words of 19th Century Scottish poet Thomas Campbell: “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
Continuing her husband’s legacy of generosity, Anna has chosen Vital Ground as the recipient for contributions in memory of David.
