Photographer Larry Aumiller

Larry Aumiller retired in 2005 after working 34 years for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Thirty of those years were spent managing the world-famous McNeil River State Game Sanctuary for viewing brown bears, where thousands of visitors have experienced wild brown bears feeding on Pacific salmon.

In 2009, Larry received an honorary doctorate degree from University of Alaska-Fairbanks for his contribution to knowledge of brown bear behavior. Since, Larry teamed up with Jeff Fair to co-author the book In Wild Trust, a classic Alaskan wilderness story of Larry’s years living intimately among the world’s largest congregation of brown bears.

Larry also serves as a Vital Ground advisor and has donated hundreds of images, which decorate publications like Vital News, marketing materials including a wall calendar. He currently resides in Missoula, Montana.
