Teton Valley Ranch Camp PROJECT BRIEF

Located on 2,600 acres of private land surrounded by public lands in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, Teton Valley Ranch Camp experiences frequent bear activity near its campsites and facilities. To keep both campers and wildlife safe, the camp sought to improve food storage infrastructure and teach young participants the importance of proper attractant management while recreating in bear country.

With support from Vital Ground, the camp purchased five portable, bear-resistant food storage boxes for use at on-ranch campsites. Two boxes were permanently installed at “Grizzly Gulch,” a frequently used pack-trip site in a valley often traveled by bears. These improvements help reduce the risk of human-bear conflict while giving campers hands-on experience with bear-safe practices, building lifelong awareness and stewardship in the next generation of outdoor leaders.
